No doubt about it, Disney is for kids of all ages, even us old geezer type of kids. I know this because if a recent trip to the Magic Kingdom. Everybody there acts a little childlike at all the wonders Mr. Disney made for us. But what you may not know is that children can find wonders in the littlest things or the strangest places, even the restrooms.
For all you women reading this blog who are not familiar with the men’s room I will explain. The men’s room is a long room with urinals on one long wall with stalls on the other side. These urinals have an automatic flushing device which is controlled by a chrome plate on the wall with an red light in the center that lets the device know when one person leaves and another takes his place. When that happens, the urinals flush automatically. There is also a wing wall about four feet high that separates each urinal. This is to allow a modicum of privacy and protect against bad aims. You can see who is next to you when using the urinal, just not what they are doing. As if, you didn’t already know.
Being one of the “Old Geezer” I did drink a lot of coffee this day requiring me to visit these mens rooms often. At Disney, these restrooms are almost always filled to capacity. As soon as one person leaves, another one takes his place. The bad news here is that old geezers like me always take a little longer when using the urinal than the younger type of clientele. It was at one of these pit stops that I found myself standing between two boys. Not being a good judge of age, all I can tell you is that their heads came a little above the protective wing wall. That and I am almost certain they did not know each other.
For adults there is an edict involved when a man is using a urinal. Look straight ahead and do not talk. Do your business and get out of the way for the next guy. I was adhering to these rules when the boys stepped up to the urinals beside me. It goes without saying that we all have some type of peripheral vision that does allow us to see what is happening beside us even if we are concentrating on the tile wall in front of us. I knew they were there. I even noticed that the boy on my left leaned in and put his face very close to the wall. Yes, curiosity got the best of me and I looked to see what he was doing. He was looking into the little red light that controls the auto flush. As if there was some magic genie behind the wall that flushes the urinal and he could see this genie if he looked into the little red light. How cool that even in the restroom children can find wonder in the simplest things. Moments later the boy on my right did the same thing.
I couldn’t help but thinking for just a second that Mr. Disney wasted a lot of money. All he had to do was put a shinny red light on a wall and the kids would have been happy. Then again maybe not.
